Las Vegas – The students of Sierra Vista High School took a bold step beyond the traditional classroom this week, converting the facility at Valhallan Esports into a full-scale, student-run esports tournament environment as part of their multimedia curriculum. Channel 13 Las Vegas News KTNV
In a program designed to mirror a professional event’s pace and complexity, students assumed roles spanning production, broadcast, marketing, tech-setup, commentary and streaming. “They feel responsible… they get to feel that panic mode of like, ‘Oh my God, I got so much to do,’” said multimedia teacher Madison Lyn. This year’s initiative broadens its reach through a strategic partnership with INFERNO where gaming, culture and entertainment collide, fueled by passion, built in Vegas. INFERNO’s involvement brings real-world industry insight, mentoring and brand alignment to the program. As a founding partner, INFERNO’s leadership will work directly with student teams to explore careers in esports, event-production and content creation.
“Seeing a local high school host this kind of program is a proud moment for us,” said Jairo Urcuyo, CEO & Founder of INFERNO and a Sierra Vista alum. “It’s super cool to see now that my high school is supporting esports, and through INFERNO we can open the door not just for players, but for the next generation of behind-the-scenes talent.” Channel 13 Las Vegas News KTNV
INFERNO’s role includes:
-
Providing guest coaching sessions and panels featuring esports professionals
-
Supplying broadcast and streaming equipment and branding support
-
Matching student-led teams with INFERNO branded content challenges and real-world deliverables
-
Highlighting student participants in INFERNO’s community content channels, giving them exposure and networking opportunities
For the students of Sierra Vista, the tournament experience served as more than a competition: it was a live simulation of career roles and responsibilities. “Each student had a different role… they needed to learn how to do all the camera angles, wire all the mics, stream… it’s a bunch of different media at the same time happening,” noted Lyn. INFERNO believes that esports holds immense potential not only for athletes, but for creatives, technologists and event-builders and that Las Vegas is uniquely positioned to become a hub for this ecosystem. “Whether you want to shout-cast, do graphics, build community, or engineer networked live experiences this is groundwork,” said Urcuyo.
